What’s not to love about a classic VW Beetle?
They’re joyful to look at, fun to drive, and the perfect size for town and city driving.
And if a standard classic Bug brings a smile to your face – then our latest EV conversion is bound to have you absolutely beaming.
It’s pink, it’s electric, and it’s fabulous!
Here’s how the team transformed this lovely little classic into something extra-special. . .
How it began
When the owner approached us about an electric conversion, they said they wanted a fantastic and one-of-a-kind Beetle. We love converting these little VWs, so we were more than happy to take on the challenge.
As the owner didn’t already have the car, we started by sourcing one that would be the right fit. After some scouring through our supplier network, we found this lovely 1303 model.
It was in pretty good condition for an older car, but a little bit of work was needed.
Restoration
Before we could start on the electric conversion, we needed to make sure that the car was up to scratch.
There were some age-related bodywork repairs to deal with, and the bonnet and boot lid needed replacing.
Before any EV conversion, we want to make sure that all the vital elements are in tip-top condition so the owner has the best possible driving experience. With this one, we needed to replace the suspension and fit new brakes.
Then came the really fun part – the paintwork!
Classic blues and creams always look great on a Beetle, but this owner wanted something utterly unique, so they requested bubble-gum pink. So, that’s exactly what we gave them.
Going electric
With the bodywork and repairs all sorted, we then got onto the all-important EV conversion.
Firstly, we removed the original engine and fuel tank, along with all the other parts that were no longer needed. Then we moved on to fitting the battery and motor, which were carefully positioned to keep an even weight distribution.
The charging point was fitted where the fuel cap used to be, so (other than the fabulous colour) the outside looks just as it should.
Finishing touches
With such an outstanding exterior, we couldn’t let the conversion down with a boring old interior. The owner opted for tangerine vegan leather for the seating, and the interior metal panels were painted in the same pink as the exterior.
Extra attention to detail was added with a decorative chrome trip, along with refurbished wheels with chrome caps. We also installed a German Blaupunkt stereo – after all, a car that looks as good as this has got to have a great music system too.
For a bit of final flare, we matched the battery box lid and the rear vanity plates with the pink paintwork.
And if that wasn’t enough, we created a custom pink screen to display the EV information on the dashboard.
Ready to drive
And there you have it, one wonderfully unique classic electric VW Beetle ready to hit the streets of East London.
We’re pretty sure this is going to be getting some attention!
This project has been an absolute pleasure for us.
